Yarra River - Melbourne Australia (the Flying Duc)

I wonder what stats DJI actually hold. I religiously sync my flights back to wherever it is that they sync to from the app. It would be interesting to look at a # of fly-aways v total # flights, and # actual equipment failure v # of numpty pilots ;)

Yarra River - Melbourne Australia (the Flying Duc)

This is the bit that should keep the hobbyists out of the RE market. There's no point in looking at a risk assessment in terms of population density if you can't get past the 30m rule in suburbia. You're correct about losing contact between aircraft and controller (though the i1 does have a...

Yarra River - Melbourne Australia (the Flying Duc)

Yes, but the populous area restriction is pre-existing, the proposed changes to the CASR won't impact the hobbyist, as the populous area restriction remains unchanged. I guess this depends on the jobs that you want to do, but there are plenty of licensed operators flying quads. As you...

Always gotta be on the lookout for low flying helicopters

Lots of low-flying aircraft along the eastern beaches. Victor1 (a lane for small aircraft to avoid SYD traffic) runs from South Head to Cronulla at 500ft. The Westpac helo, which is based out at Cape Banks, will often fly below this over water if they are on the way to a job on the coast, plus...

Beautiful Malabar Beach & Headlands. Sydney, Australia

I was an ambo at Maroubra a while back and loved Malabar. Probably the nicest (read, quietest) beach in the eastern suburbs. I used to love driving by the beach on the way back from a job at Long Bay or Bilga Crescent :-)

Price of certification in Australia... Wtf??

The issue for RE photography, if and when CASA release CASR102, will be the 30m rule for <2kg unlicensed commercial operation. For most suburban situations, that will be enough to preclude non-licenced operators from jumping on the RE bandwagon.

    Urunga Australia... the aquatic playground...

The Vimeo bit I can help with....click Settings under your video on the video page, then click the Privacy tab and set to "Anyone". You need to make sure that the video embedding setting allows you to embed "anywhere" (or to this specific site if you're a Vimeo Pro user) I suspect that the...

I'm not seeing these Steven. You might want to check your Vimeo permissions?

Long Exposure Sunset - 2 Second Exposure Samples

Did you ever have a go at this? Naturally, you'd have done it from the ground, since we're limited to flying daylight hours only down here :) There was a big aurora last night (Kp7 at one point), but I slept through it. When I don't sleep through our aurora australis shows, I shoot for...

    Great Southern Tasmania

Nice work. Almost as beautiful as Great Northern Tasmania ;-)

Yarra River - Melbourne Australia (the Flying Duc)

The proposed changes to the CASR won't impact the hobbyist. The 2kg weight limit only applies to commercial operation. It doesn't affect recreational flying at all. Once the proposed rules are in place, anybody will be able to operate a UAV <2kg for hire or reward, without going through the...
