I have been using my iPad Air 2 for several years with my Inspire 1 and 2 with no problems.
They have just released a new version of the Go app which might solve your problem.
Hope that helps.
Just thought of something to check.
You may need to fit leg extensions so the X5 does not touch the ground.
When I upgraded from Inspire 1 to the Pro it is definitely higher off the ground, and it also has larger motors to lift the extra weight.
Having said that I would not condemn converting...
The inspire 2 slave controller can be configured to trainer mode giving complete control of aircraft.
The good news is that the master controller will take over on initiation of any input.
For your application as long as the trainer mode is not switched on, the slave controller will only operate...
Hammer Missions will do that and much more.

I am a beta tester for them, Try the 14 day free trial and see what you think.
Hope this helps.
This may be a solution. On the 15mm lens there is a switch or pull out ring to select between manual or auto focus of camera.
Have you tried switching it to auto focus. In the app you can still manually focus.
Hope this helps.
