And apparently there is a DJI Mavic in this video..... I didn't notice

I'm thoroughly impressed by what I've seen so far. I find it interesting that DJI has introduced a new product that is directly competing with another of their new products (P4). But, while the P4 was an improvement over the existing Phantom line the Mavic is a completely new product that, with the limitation of a narrower FOV, is better in every way over the phantom. I will buy one (from Ralph at FlyHighUSA) but, I'm going to wait for the Inspire 2 and see if a can get a package deal on an Osmo Mobile+Mavic+Inspire 2.

Hovering ability is impressive. it looked like it was hanging from a thread. As a smaller platform that the I1Pro, it is a very able *replacement* of a P3/4. Wonder if ND filters will fit as the lens diameter seems even smaller than the P3/4 .. Portability and agility + better flight times are plusses with the 72 degree focal being the main drawback - i.e. fly higher . Very pleased it fits on Justine's bag ...

The form factor, folding design and weight is a huge positive feature.
I have travelled on airlines with one of my Inspires (plus the usual armoury of batteries and it really isn't fun). This is a travel game changer and at under 750g or 1.64lbs MTOM you could literally carry it around all day.

I have looked at 3-4 sample videos and they all look pretty soft. The DigitalRev samples look "OK" with some decent color corrections but still not super sharp or with good detail. The Casey Neistat sample looks truly horrible. I love the portability, the design and the features...but not the image quality based on what I have seen so far.

Gents the Mavic is fitted with an autofocus lens and works similarly to the X5, most of the online videos are looking soft because of the pilots not setting it up correctly as many of you are well used to with the X5.

Blade Strike DJI Rep has posted footage and stills from his unit on RCG and it's pin sharp and very clear, in fact some comments are the P4 is a little softer at the edges.

I would advise against taking any online video you see at the moment as how it is as there are a very small number of these out there and of them it's even fewer people who fully know how to use it.

Overall I'm extremely excited about this product it's quite amazing what's packaged into that thing.

Whilst it's not a replacement for the Phantom line it's a new very versatile mobile aerial platform.

It's being mentioned that ND are really needed with this unit and look forward to seeing them soon.

For me, this Mavick looks a very nice go anywhere companion to have alongside the Inspire1.
I won't use the selfie modes much though, nobody is interested in a silly old dude, not even me. Especially not me.

Knowing myself I guess I'll end up wanting one.
I cant point you to some specialised sites that like Silly old dudes. ;-)))

Not here you can :)

Sorry The Editor! Was really not my intention to lure Ikopta yet again into Off Topic.

But seriously, DJI knows how to kill the launch party for a competitor.

The Mavic has great karma ahead.

Thanks for the pointer to the footage on RCgroups - the video posted there by Blade Strike is waaaay better. For those interested in seeing what the camera can produce, you can download the file from the thread:

Official DJI Mavic ***Owner and Developer'sThread*** - Page 72 - RC Groups

There's also another sample later in the same thread.

I am kind of surprised that some of the people who were granted early access were unable to set up the camera to deliver sharp video. User error? Most likely.
