FLIR is a well known brand in this space. Plus it might raise security concerns if they did.

Having a RTF off the shelf aerial FLIR solution available to anyone in areas of conflict could get our service men and women killed.

I don't really understand what the big difference is. What would a 30Hz FLIR camera give enemies of the US over the 9Hz model?

I've worked in the IR industry for about 20 years, and the explanation I've heard most consistently is that 9 Hz is below the threshold required to guide munitions or use in targeting. FWIW...

Okaaaaaay, but that doesn't explain why they can't be exported to trusted countries such as France, Germany, Norway, the UK etc. They are after all allowing export to Canada. It isn't as if IR cameras are truly special. I'm sure that if a terrorist or hostile country wanted one I doubt they'd have much difficulty finding a way to get one.

Plus what are they going to use it with? An Inspire1 with an elastic band launcher? A rocket launcher? Okay, so how will they interface it to the control system? Not exactly simple. Seems mad for DJI to develop a product that they can only sell in two countries. And ones that haven't really sorted their stuff out when it comes to commercial UAV use in the first place!

I can't speak for the US gov but I do believe it's the potential battlefield (covert or overt) uses that are the main concerns.

North Korea for example, is flying drones over the DMZ and into Soul. 50,000 US troops or so are located near the DMZ. Having high res FLIR cameras might allow them to track troop movements at night, see troop locations in buildings, whatever.

They (or Jihadists) can't launch missiles from an Inspire but they could potentially use it for recon and targeting.

Why not allow Germany, France and other friendly nations full license like Canada? I don't know.

North Korea puts its DMZ-crossing drone fleet on display

based on tau2 core so it aint gonna be cheap folks, throw in the gimbal as well and im guessing around X5 pro territory, and remember this is aimed at a specialist market and not the everyday flyer so it will be priced accordingly

Has anyone found info on when this will be released for sale by DJI? The product page looks great and all, but I'm looking for a 'Buy Now' button ... and a price tag...

The VUE and VUE pro are reasonably priced and they are based on Tau2 so I see no reason (fingers crossed) for the XT to be too high.

True but with DJI lowering prices lately on some items, maybe they are seeing some of their price points were not matching forecast profits.
I truly hope you are right and the XT - better version will be available for people living on earth and not the upper 1000 to afford it and get the ROI back asap. what I find is unfair is that only US has the right to have the best toys regardless of the rest of the world and the worst thing is THEY dictate who is getting what under which circumstances and conditions.
looking at it from a different point of view one could say USA is a threat to the other side of the world starting wars in middle east, terrorizing those countries by invading them saying "we'll clean up the mess and everything will be better' ending up in civil war. I am not saying that this is my way I think or thought I like / love al in the world and in no way racist but the story with the XT is unfair to the ones not living in the US and needing a camera like this with higher resolution /Hz for their work.

no offense meant to anyone or anything to anyone here or in the world. it is just what I see sometimes with conversations here and one can see in the media.

I do not know if Hungary does not allow the import of such devices but as far as I understand the 30Hz version is only allowed to be sold in Canada and US. please correct me if I misunderstood something. - not native english. sorry.

Nothing to do with import, but export. The USA do not let any thermal camera with >9Hz refresh rate leave their borders.

Yeah but the Tau2 branded products are cheaper because some features are dropped. Features that some would like on the XT, so... Either way it's gonna make some unhappy.

For the same reason that fighter aircraft and other military technologies they sell to friendly countries are always degraded from what they have for themselves... In case these countries became "not friendly" later down the road. Oh and they certainly would appreciate the PR boost they could benefit from if the technology they exported was not enough and they had to come "join the party and save the day"

Take the camera apart, rip the core out, install it in another device.
