Well, if it ends up as a Super 16 or MFT sensor and as long as it costs less than £2k I'll have one. That's what I'll get for the S900 rig I will no longer use.

Soo I wonder what the cost would be buying a new Inspire 1 with the new camera minus the old camera. What do they value the old camera at?

Nice. A step up. Thanks!

But I was enjoying the spirited speculation

Im fine with those specs IF they get the bit rate up...I'd much prefer prores over mp4 though...

Thanks for the heads up Editor. Any ideas on how the mounting needs to change on the Inspire? Will the existing camera still be compatible if you upgrade the mounting?

It will need a new gimbal plate but at this stage I am unsure whether the two cameras will be freely swappable.

This was always going to happen - only a matter of when not if. It's good to see it officially announced now though and hopefully will quell Inspire 2 rumours for the time being.

Micro Four Thirds sensor.
Interchangeable lenses (limitd to DJI's MFT 15mm f1.7 ASPH lens made for the X5: the Panasonic Lumix 15mm G Leica DG Summilux f1.7 ASPH lens and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f2.0 and M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8 lenses)
Two models: one with on-board micro SD card, one that records CinemaDNG 10-bit raw 422 footage to an on-board 512GB SSD card. I don't think anybody saw that one coming.
Minimal impact on flight time.

"Inspire 1 owners with the Zenmuse X3 camera will be able to pick up a standalone Zenmuse X5 for $2,200. It requires a small bracket to be mounted on the quadcopter, but the X5 cameras are fully compatible. Again, no UK or Australia pricing was available, but it converts to £1,400 and AU$3,100. Standalone pricing for the X5R will be announced closer to the release date."

Well, except for the price, this is even better than I had hoped for. It's the full-sized Micro Four Thirds sensor, supports interchangeable lenses, and records CinemaDNG raw video. The only thing I can think of right now is that I wish it recorded directly to ProRes; that would save a step.

So this is not a minor camera upgrade; it's a major, professional-quality camera upgrade.
