Unboxed battery, will not charge or power up Inspire

Hey so I am helping a friend set up his brand new Inspire with FW updates and whatnot, and came across a weird problem with the battery included in the kit.
LED1 (furthest one from the button) is just flashing in kind of a D --- D pattern over and over... Won't charge or power up the Inspire, just does that.
Any ideas?
