    UK Relaxed rules

I think the 150 metres limit isn't overly unreasonable. A UAV can travel that distance at a fair pace, so in the event of loss of control or hardware failure things could get messy very quickly. The UAV's we operate aren't foolproof in terms of safety, either from user error, hardware failure or...

USA 2way radio recommendations for commercial work communication on field.

It's really just a case of calling a day or two before I intend to fly, giving them the location of the intended operation, dates and times etc. Then on the day of the flight I have to call again and let them know if I am flying or scrubbing. They keep airspace above me clear up to 1500ft...

USA 2way radio recommendations for commercial work communication on field.

I was told this by the local ATCU manager, after I had a meeting with him to be placed on their approved SUA/SUSA operators list. This is a UK airfield though. I asked about buying a radio set and he said don't bother. Mobile phone comms is enough for them. When I intend to operate in controlled...

    UK ANO 2016 v PFAW/PFCO

I'm not trying to be argumentative but the ANO does state: 4) The person in charge of a small unmanned aircraft which has a mass of more than 7kg excluding its fuel but including any articles or equipment installed in or attached to the aircraft at the commencement of its flight, must not fly...

    UK ANO 2016 v PFAW/PFCO

In section D on the PfAW and PfCO, mine says over or within 150 metres, the only difference to yours is that yours says directly over. It's still the same restriction though. I see your point on landowners permission though, that should be a pre-requisite for any UAV operator, commercial or...

    UK ANO 2016 v PFAW/PFCO

How does it differ? The ANO 2016 states the same restrictions for hobbyist flyers as it does commercial as far as I can see. I don't get what you mean. Hobbyist flyers are still bound by the ANO and the restrictions stated in there. The only real difference is that PfCO/ PfAW holders can operate...

    UK ANO 2016 v PFAW/PFCO

Not sure what you mean because Pts 94 & 95 state: The standard permissions granted by the PfCO mirror those stated in the ANO 2016.

UK Would I be wasting my money with a PfCO in the UK?

It's treated exactly the same as a commercial job, in every way, apart from the fact that you are being assessed. So you have to do the pre-deployment survey, on-site survey and risk assessment. Then you use your flight reference cards for every phase of the flights too. One tip, the assessor...

You have to have commercial insurance for the flight assessment. I paid £25 for cover for the assessment, which was then deducted when I took out the yearly policy. Good luck with the course, I'm sure you'll enjoy it whoever you choose.

UK Would I be wasting my money with a PfCO in the UK?

I don't know what the fast-track courses are like but I chose my NQE and course format because it had the online learning element before I attended ground school and sat the exam. They have a flight assessment location in Richmond, North Yorks so it was relatively local. The classroom phase was...

UK Thinking of taking flight assessment for 7-20kg class, anyone flying that class?

The only contact method he required was a mobile telephone number that someone could be contacted on. I told him it would be my observer who would assume responsibility for relaying instructions to me. My observer has a mobile specifically for that purpose. The last thing I want to be doing is...
