Controller firmware issues

I recently got a used Inspire 1. It's stuck in travel mode with the blue light and I'm starting to believe that the root of the problem is the controller's firmware. According to the DJI Go app, the controller is running firmware 1.8.0 right now. When the app starts up, it shows a Phantom 3 Professional and I can't select a different bird. I don't even have a Phantom 3, yet it says "Aircraft Connected" and I can enter Camera View mode (where no video is displayed, obviously) and, at the top where it's supposed to be green and say "ready to fly", it's flashing red and saying "Remote Controller Signal Weak".

I'm trying to downgrade the firmware to 1.6 or lower via the DJI Go app (by holding the top right corner until the downgrade screen pops up) and it just says "0% Upgrade Complete" forever. It never does anything.

I also tried to do it manually via USB and again, nothing happens. I insert the freshly formatted USB drive with the .bin file in the root directory, turn the controller on and nothing happens.

DJI Go app version: 3.1.0
"Version" (bird?): 1.1.5
Remote Controller version: 1.8.0
Flight Controller SN: <blank>

Any idea how to get this to do something? Anything?

Completely uninstall the app, and download it again... that's what I'd try 1st. Or try using another device with the app?

The landing gear should have nothing to do with the app, there's a switch located around your return to home button of the controller...

Power up the controller, fire up the bird, then flip that switch up and down about 4 times and it should move to flight mode from travel mode.

The opposite applies when you're done flying ;)

I did that already. Deleted the app, browsed to the DJI directories and deleted both of them, reinstalled the app. Did this multiple times on multiple devices. Still nothing. The furthest it'll go is 34%, then fail out.

Great minds think alike, though. I was in the midst of doing all this when I got the notification for your reply. lol

I ended up doing it many times using everything I could get my hands on to remove as many variables as possible:

Nexus 6p
Nexus 7 (2013)
Nexus 4
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
My wife's iPad mini (no longer supported...thanks, Apple)
2 different USB Type-C cables
4 different USB Micro cables

No dice. Looking like it's going back. Which sucks.

Hi, I'm currently experiencing the exact same thing you described in this topic. When I start my DJI Go app, 60% of the times (not always!) it automatically connects to a Phantom 3 (I have a DJI Matrice 100 ...). After selecting camera (with the obvious black screen) it also says 'remote controller signal weak'.

My software: DJI Go App v 3.10 and RC Firmware 1.8.0+.

Added symptoms: occassionaly I get the notification that there is an RC firmware update available (v1.8.0, the one I have ...) and I actually managed to download it at some point! Just sometimes, I get the option to actually install the downloaded update, but it shuts off after about 10s without notification.

I don't know how to do the RC firmware downgrade in the 3.10 version of the DJI Go App, pushing the academic hat (which is now in its own submenu) for 30s and letting go doesn't get me anywhere.

So my question: did you actually return your RC or did you manage to get it fixed some other way?
Your help and experience would be much appreciated!

Hi!

It's still in the shop. At this point, the seller has agreed to refund me the cost of a new controller and the other repair fees. Hopefully they honor their promise. (I'll see to it that they do...)

The shop said the controller was done. "Totally bricked" I believe was how they put it. It's going back to DJI to get fixed. They said it should only cost 100-150 bucks to get fixed out of warranty, which I found very reasonable.

If yours is doing the same thing, you might have to send yours to DJI as well. What made yours stop working?

Wow, that's not nice. My Matrice 100 has actually never flown before. I just got it, and wanted to get everything updated before I even take it to the skies. So I successfully upgraded my flight controller first, then got a notification in the DJI Go app to do the same for the RC, which also finished without a problem.

After that, I was reading up and tried the simulator built into the app, to get acquainted with flying a drone. All of that worked perfectly this afternoon, until I decided I wanted to fire up the engines to see if everything is really working. All of a sudden I noticed I couldn't get any connection to my M100 and I started to see all this weird behavior in the app.

To make things even more interesting, I read in this post on the DJI forum (from a DJI staff/support member apparently) that there isn't even supposed to be a RC firmware 1.8.0! This was posted 8 days ago, chances are slim they actually released it until now I guess ...

I'm trying to find out how to downgrade my RC, hoping that will fix my problem. I'll keep you guys posted!
Hope I don't have to send anything back, I just got all of this shiny, new and expensive gear :(

Got ya. Sounds like you may have just gotten a bad firmware...not the end of the world.

To downgrade, hold the little lines icon thing in the top right corner of the DJI Go app. (At the screen where you pick your bird and hit the "camera" button to go to camera view.) That'll bring up the downgrade screen.

Lemme know how it goes.

rmp5s is correct, had the same problem, white light on my controller, fast blinking yellow light on my inspire1 after trying to download the latest firmware to my controller. The firmware worked great on the inspire and Samsung, not the controller. Did the downgrade thing holding the icon, top right of the dji go app, took many times before the 1.6 firmware finished upgrading. ( Always had Phantom 3, appear on screen, wouldn't connect to inspire1. Had problems that the Phantom 3 would lose connection to drone, always power down controller, restart, did this until stayed on long enough to download. Then tried to download the new program to controller, but never worked ! Had to push camera button to drone when had Phantom3 connected, then pushed the centre button on app, sometimes said, weak signal, then sometimes says need to upgrade controller. Hit download, around 1-5 %, the controller light will turn red from white, then will connect to drone, then everything works. Just for a bit. You might have to do this many times before you get the whole firmeware loaded. Then for some reason, tried last time and the blue light will light up and you can hear the firmware load up to 100%, have old firmware 1.6 works great, but for some reason also have new firmware on app. I actually did this twice, the first time I downloaded the 1.6 firmware, worked great great, then I downloaded the new firmware and had the same results, controller screwed up at the 97% of the download, controller light went white and then had Phantom3 icon one more time. the second time only took 1 hr to reload the old firmware again. Works great. ****, feels good when controller light turn red from white, then blue ...
