Here is this years fireworks video of The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival in Northern NY (near Lake Placid)
The carnival is 119 years old and is an all volunteer effort of building a large ice palace and holding parades and events. I help build the palace as well as doing ice carving of many sculptures each year. I felt that an Inspire would help to show the world from the above just how amazing what this community does.
thanks very cold and had to fly with big gloves so not as smooth as my usual work.

Really awesome, great job there. Love the lit up ice castle, best seen from up in the sky. Did you have a big screen down link for the spectators?

Cool, awesome colour's. I put up my first vid with the inspire 1, focused on the area I live in Esperance, Western Australia. @ utube "Esperance bay of isles" if anyone gets bored, nice coastal area, criticisms welcome

I think this is awesome, and really want to try it out myself.

I do have a few questions for you.

1. Did you have permission from the company launching the fire works to fly that close?
2. Did local police / fire give you a hard time about flying over fireworks? Did you contact them in advance?
3.How does the FAA feel about flying so close to fireworks?

I'm NOT asking these questions to find out if you did anything wrong I'm only asking so I know what to expect when I try to do get some footage like this myself.

Yes ,The fireworks guys are friends of mine, I help them set up and pick up after......this way they let me do what I want. I am a winter carnival committee member and help build the palace so the whole town is cool. Its all for the promotion of what our town does and all volunteer. FAA ......well not sure what they would think. We did have two state fire inspectors at the 2nd fireworks show and they thought it was cool. I stay away farther than it looks. Its tough to film as the shells go off at 300ft and 450ft,so you have to move to catch it all. If you stayed in one spot the lower shells would be to far away. Fun project.

oh yes settings 600 ISO aprox , 3000k white balance , landscape, 4K 24 frames ,this has worked perfect several times. I set the GoPros on the ground the same as well as the Nikon in front of the palace.
I did not dare to try my x5 yet. I have some fireworks at home, so this summer I will set up the x5 and shot off some to test how it would work.

Not to be a "fly in the soup," but make sure your name is not on that video as the FAA bans all night flying and will hassle you. Ask me how I know....

Noted ,Thanks, sad that its getting this way. We are promoting a project that a huge part of the town works so hard on. Hmmm it is private property though....and I did have the ok.
No night time ever? even on private land?
I had guessed it would come to a end.
thanks

It's not no night flights ever you just need a waiver and a NOTAM. If the organisers of the display get the NOTAM then you may be able to do the waiver as part of that ensuring you're out over the lake and not in the fall out zone of the rockets. The BBC used drones in the middle of London right next to big Ben and the houses of parliament for the new years fireworks there. Come up with a plan with maximum safety for all involved. Get the organisers and local authorities to sign off on it and try for a waiver.
