Why the pixelated vid?

I've been noticing weird...like...pixelation artifacts or something lately. Example, the beginning parts of this video:

Dropbox - Test.mp4

They're visible all throughout, but the beginning parts they're SUPER awful in the street.

What is causing this? I don't think this is the way the X3 just is...is it? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Is it just me that sees it? Is it just the way it is, get an X5? Anybody?

It’s not just you, the pixelation is real.

It’s most probably caused by a combination of the relatively low data rate (high compression) used on the X3, a less than perfect codec and some post processing that has made the compression artefacts in the dark areas of the video very visible.

I have found that you can’t push the exposure of X3 footage much in post. The X5 is better but to get a decent level of control you will need to go for the X5S with Prores or raw capture.

Ahhhhh......if only the X5S would fit on the I1...

Oh well. Maybe I'll grab the X5 and call it good.

Thanks!
