Intel just announced a partnership with Yuneec for a new Typhoon hexacopter that has automatic, real-time obstacle avoidance in lead/follow modes (and other things, like collapsable arms and a failsafe system in case a motor or prop goes out).

The demo of the avoidance was clunky, but it definitely worked. Expected first half of 2016 for "under $2000". (CNET says $1800, but then also says the RealSense is an 'add on'. Willing to bet the total will still be less than an Inspire.)

Avoidance is definitely going to be the next big thing in aerial flight... I know DJI has some tricks up their sleeve for CES, hopefully they're not keeping this limited to the Matrice.
