Drone hits Empire State Building

Does anyone know what kind of drone it was? One story, unconfirmed, said it was purchased for $70 on the internet and weighed 100g -- seems unlikely if it also had video capabilities.

Everyone of us should care as acts like this increase the chance that even more regulations com down the pike. Beyond that, the public is already predisposed against drones and this only makes things worse. When the public is against you the pols enact more regulations.

And by what evidence do you have it that no damage was done?

Brian

Not sure what country you're in but here in the usa regulations really couldn't get any worse. If you abide by the faa recommendations you pretty much can't "legally" fly anywhere besides the middle of ******** nowhere away from any people/buildings/national parks/airports/private property/public property/etc.

Since no one linked the story and I've never heard about or read it till this thread I have no evidence of zero damage other than experience. Even if it was a 6 pound inspire 1 traveling at it's approx 55 mph full speed which is highly unlikely it still wouldn't have enough force to damage a building. Back when I was a novice uav pilot trying to fly the inspire 1 fpv style to video myself driving farm equipment I crashed mine into a glass window of the machine at full speed due to video lag and inexperience and nothing happened to the window ($1000+ damage to the cheaply constructed literally paper thin carbon fiber[haha] arms and destroyed camera/gimble) so logic dictates nothing would happen to a concrete/metal building other than perhaps a small temporary scuff mark.

So its OK to fly your quad in the middle of a busy US city just not above 400ft? What do you think caused the crash? Bad piloting, radio interference, high altitude gusts around tall buildings?
Probably 'yes' to all of the above.

Odd, in the UK you would get fined for flying over the prison because it's a populated area not because it's a prison. Making it against the law to fly over the prison implys that a law would need to be made for all kinds of places. It's not like the UK is adverse to making laws for the sake of making them to keep some or other group happy so watch this space.

I'm surprised they didn't get him for flying over populated areas! Those was State Troopers so I'll assume they knew the law
Only when a person crashes is it a crime. Reckless endangerment I believe.
So practice and believe in the U.S constitutional rights you have to fly as a hobbyist!
