Problems with "red Colour Props"

Just saw this on the DJI forum

These guys have made replacements for the DJI props and they are carbon fibre and "fold" so will fit in the DJI case without removing them. They have been tested and shipments start in first week of February.

Inspire 2 Carbon Fiber folding propellers

I pre ordered mine already.

I don't have previous experience with foldable props, but I would be careful.
The braking and accelerating of the motors may cause imbalance and resonance, since the props can offset. I know there are copters that have them though. Can be tricky if the flight controller hasn't been set up for them I would think.

Well, I've just received my replacement props from DJI which was sent to me in a toilet brush holder box!.

The updated props are from a new mould and also include a black foam insert. The new mould can be easily picked as it's got a "2" on the bottom.

All of the "2" props I have fit well.

I'm still not fixed though because the replacement props from DJI are a mix or old and new moulds with the foam inserts.

I thought my I2 had escaped all of this, but it developed the 'rattle' last Friday on the front red motor after having flown for around 4:30hrs total without any noise. Presumably something has worn slightly through mounting/dismounting the props and it's now enough to introduce the wobble/noise.

This makes me think there's a definite tolerance issue (as the red props are much looser than the white to mount/dismount and lock). Either the red prop shaft is slightly too narrow, or the prop socket is slightly too wide. I tried packing the top of the prop with some foam, but that didn't work. So I ended up using a rectangle of some tracing/greaseproof paper folded over to act as a small shim to pack the side of the prop shaft that the prop sits onto - that worked a treat. No noise, no wobble.

If I can find my Verniers, then I'll measure the shaft size on the front and back red motors - it's got to be that that's different as the same props make no noise when swapped to the back motor, but make a noise on the front one.

I looked at the dJI web site and they sell high end drone with folding props including the Mavic. The suppler also has a I2 and is already doing testing to ensure the quality and performance. These come machine balanced so the culprit that causes the problems will be removed by careful balancing

I have been back and forth with DJI about these props. Sent in pictures, receipts, all types of information only to be told that they are still "evaluating" my case. They're defective props. DJI made them. Please replace them. Not like I am asking for them to send me a new bird. They make the easiest fixes so difficult.

I might not be converting this to dollars correctly, but it sure looks like these props are $200 USD. They must be gold plated.

Is DJI making anyone else send in props first before replacements are sent? They insisted I send mine first and refused to do anything else. I said that's fine I will open a dispute with paypal and get refunded. I received a shipping notification in 1hr.

I demanded new props from DJI several days ago- maybe about a week ago in fact, and I just got notified that they shipped via UPS. DJI sure didn't make it easy, but at least the new props are on their way.

I was the first adopter of an I2 to report the problem to DJI here in China. As fits they wanted the I2 returned but instead i let my wife (who is Chinese) talk to them in Mandarin she said " new props now or we ship it all back", props arrived 3 days later. They are not the MARK 2 design and "we" are currently waiting for a full set of these but it wont be until after CNY so maybe on 4 Feb sometime.

I've got the dreaded RED prop vibration also. The support CHAT guy said to contact DJI.com/support after sales department. Did you guys that got new props have to go thru this route? Thanks.

YES so get the support ticket number you can track the progress on the DJI web site and if you need to ***** the number helps so they can see whats happening for you.

Can i ask have you tried the foam insert to resolve?

Thanks Doc for answering so quickly. I have not tried that yet as it is night here and we have had very inclement weather in the last few days. Maybe tomorrow if it clears up.

You should be able to tell without powering the I2 up by simply fitting the prop and spinning the prop. If fix no noise if not your will hear a very definite rattle.
